/Staycation/

noun | informal

A holiday spent in one's home country rather than abroad.

Shut your eyes and imagine the beach.

One with rolling sand dunes and reeds blowing in the wind. You roll out of bed and walk into the kitchen where there’s a basket of freshly baked bread from the local bakery, you make yourself a coffee with a super fancy coffee machine. You step through the living room, past the fireplace and remains of last night’s fire and glasses containing just a drop of the locally grown wine. And you go out onto your terrace to overlook those sand dunes. You breathe. You smile to yourself. This is perfect. This moment is perfect. This cabin is perfect.

But where are you? You’re in Germany, where else? I’m as surprised as you are.

Open your eyes.

Germany is full of these special places to stay. They’re just hard to find. So hard, in fact, that you’d be forgiven for giving up after scrolling and scrolling and scrolling.

That’s why we created The Staycation Collection. Think Airbnb meets travel agency meets the lonely planet.

How it works.

We operate as a membership platform and provide members with a curated collection of Germany’s most beautiful, special places to stay and provide information on what to do while you’re there.

Why?

The Staycation Collection was created out of personal frustration. When our founder Emily moved to Germany, she was full of fresh energy and determined to explore the country she’d decided to call home. She started planning her first weekend away, and checked online but ugh: Why was this place so ugly? Where is Bölkze? What could she do there? Instead, she booked flights to Spain.

But she had a sense of guilt in her stomach. Not only was she not exploring this spectacular country but her travel habits weren’t good for the climate. In fact, most of our travel habits aren’t good for the climate. That needs to change…

Our principles.

• Protect the planet.
Staycationing is a powerful act. By not flying on holiday, you're doing something sustainable.

• Support local economies.
We don't charge our places to stay fees, meaning 100% of your booking money goes directly to the owners.

• Handpicked properties to ensure quality.
We individually review every single property on the site to ensure quality: there are no ugly apartments or big resorts!

Why this newsletter?

While a lot of our content is for member’s only, this newsletter is for free! Every month we share our favourite corners of Germany with you, and give you tips on what you can do to explore. Sign up so you don’t miss out.
