Extend you summer with an early autumn staycation
Cosy cabins and sleek farmhouses; perfect autumnal getaways
Escapism for the mind - your bi-monthly dose of Fernweh.
Let me say something potentially controversial: I think autumn is the best time to take a vacation.
The leaves turn a magical range of oranges, reds and yellows, mornings are misty and magical, and the country’s most beautiful corners are much much quieter.
With this in mind, don’t you think you should book yourself a staycation for this autumn? Check in to a cosy cabin, pour yourself a glass of Spätburgunder and light the fire (or heat the in-house sauna…). Bliss, wouldn’t you agree?

Every room at Uckermark Villa (which sleeps 8 + 2 kids) is a delight: from the forest green splashes in the master bedroom and bright wallpaper and vintage leather armchairs in the living room, to the intricately tiled floors in the bathroom and deep blue kitchen with its standalone cooking island.
Enjoy early autumn evenings curled up in front of the wood-burning fire with a book and a glass of wine, as you listen to the fire crackle.

Germany’s best hikes
Autumn is also a brilliant time to hike; the days are warm but not sweltering, and trails tend to be less busy.
After some extensive research, a lot of questioning pros, and a lot of walking, I’ve put together The Staycation Collection’s definitive list of Germany’s top hikes. It includes The Painter's Way in Sächsische Schweiz, the Goethe Way in the Harz and the Eltz Castle Panorama Trail in the Moselle.

Our favourite cabins
Autumn is the perfect time of year for a cabin getaway: the leaves are crisp and golden, there’s a coolness to the air that makes you want to toast marshmallows, and you’re less likely to see lots of people on your long hikes.
We put together a round-up of our favourite cabins that still have availability for the autumn.
