Escapism for the mind - your bi-monthly dose of Fernweh.
Happy Easter weekend, all. The sun is shining and the days are getting longer - I feel like a whole new woman!
I'm sure, after two-plus years of limited travel, you have numerous bigger trips abroad booked (and I am thrilled for you!), but I'd like to remind you that you should still fill weekends (or even mid-weeks) with mini-breaks.
Germany at this time of year is stunning, and getting away from busy cities into quiet mountainous or forested areas works magic on one's mind. Holidays aren't just a once a year thing, fit more into your calendar and treat yourself to some semi-regular downtime.

The best places to see cherry blossoms in and around Berlin
But did you know that the cherry blossom trees in Berlin are actually 100% Japanese? The Sakura Campaign was initiated, just after the wall fell, by a Japanese TV station called Asahi TV. The aim was to get the people of Japan to donate money to buy Berlin thousands of cherry trees (sakura) as a celebration of German reunification: the donation meant it was possible to plant over 9000 cherry blossom trees in the city.
Take a look at our blog article for a roundup of the best places in and around Berlin where you can enjoy the cherry trees - go soon because before long the flowers will be gone - there’s only a small window of about 10 days where the trees are in full bloom!

Our favourite places to stay on Fischland-Darß-Zingst
The Fischland-Darß-Zingst is an incredibly underrated area of Germany in our opinion, and one of the best places to take an Urlaub an der Ostsee. The small peninsular, nestled between Rostock and Stralsund, boasts some incredible nature and a very laidback, artsy vibe.
Take a look at our favourite places to stay in the region.
