Hello!
It’s dark before I leave my desk to cycle home; yes, the grey and dark can be hard to handle, but it also marks the start of autumn escape season in Germany - which is (in my opinion) a wonderful thing.
Not convinced? Let me paint a picture for you: imagine gazing over a forest, the leaves are red and golden. There’s a light mist that hovers over the dew-covered grass, which reflects the early-morning sun rays. You step out from your cabin, the smell of the open fire still lingers from the night before, onto the grass with bare feet. Birds chirp as you sip the strong coffee you made yourself. Bliss, no?
More of a culture vulture? How about waking up in a sumptuous bed with fresh cotton sheets after you’ve spent a day exploring cobble-lined streets. You know all the day holds is the chance to duck in and out of cafes, eating freshly baked pastry, before ending up in a cosy bar, sipping Glühwein to warm yourself before heading to the theatre or to a concert.
Autumn is perfect staycation season, so why don’t you treat yourself one?
Happy adventuring,
Emily
New on The Staycation Collection: Knotted Cabin
From the sprawling terrace to the open-plan living space, everything about the Knotted Cabin is welcoming. Created as a passion project by designed Irina Rohpeter and architect Nils Kistner, the cabin was carefully constructed to blend into the Wendland landscape while preserving the naturalness of the woodland site. The result is magical: a sophisticated hideout that allows you to focus on the beautiful simplicity of life.
There are free weekends in the run up to Christmas…

New on The Staycation Collection: Hamburg Harbour Crane
A blow-out escape: a stunning, repurposed crane from 1947, found bobbing about on the Elbe, overlooking Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie. This is one of the most unique properties I have ever seen: the thoughtful restoration has resulted in an utterly romantic retreat.

Over on the blog: How to forage for autumn mushrooms in Germany
"When I was young, my parents took me on long forest tours. Our full baskets were processed every autumn in every conceivable way and the flat smelled of mushrooms the whole autumn.
Today, mushroom hunting is more than just foraging for food for me. When I go 'mushrooming' in the forests of Brandenburg today, I want to distance myself from my noisy everyday life in the city. In the forest, hecticness and stress give way within minutes, because there you devote yourself to a single activity: finding. It is the most beautiful kind of deceleration I can imagine."
We spoke to the wonderful Dani, founder of wecyclebrandenburg, who shared her tips and tricks for foraging autumn mushrooms in Brandenburg. Read the full interview on our website.
