Have you heard of "wintering"? I hadn't until I listened to the podcast episode of On Being with Katherine May, and the concept really struck a chord.
"In so many stories and fables that shape us, cold and snow, the closing in of the light — these have deep psychological as much as physical reality. This is 'wintering,' as the English writer Katherine May illuminates in her beautiful, meditative book of that title — wintering as at once a season of the natural world, a respite our bodies require, and a state of mind."
The shorter, darker days are a good time to allow ourselves to slow down and rest both our minds and bodies. The best way to do that, in my opinion, is to head to a cabin in the woods with a book, and allow myself to take distance from the hectic day-to-day we inhabit.
I'd love to know what you think of the concept of wintering. Hit reply and let me know!

Newly added: The Waterworks (Brandenburg).
If someone told you to picture an electricity utility building, we can guarantee that you wouldn’t picture The Waterworks, a stunningly renovated former water and electricity utility in Brandenburg’s beautiful Scharmützelsee region. The building dates from 1908, and was saved from ruin by couple Tim and Heike, and their friend Wolfgang, back in 2008. The six apartments are full of striking design pieces that set off the original, industrial features of the building.
