Workations. Are they worth it?
And psst, if you're panicking about where to stay over Easter, we've got your back đ€
Happy Monday, friend,
Way too many people I know hate Monday. Not because the day is evil, but because it means the start of another week full of repressing anger at their corporate job or wondering how to get through another Monday-morning standup.
âIf youâd asked me a few years ago if Iâd want to take a working holiday (workation or workcation), my answer would have been no. Work and vacationing should be separate (perhaps because I didnât want my annoyance at my boss to impact my holiday moodâŠ). However, in the past month, I've taken two separate workations. And I think I might be a convert...
For the lucky few of us who have digital, computer-based jobs, taking the chance to change our environment has a powerful impact on how our brain works; in changing our space, our routine has to shift, we need to become more present, and it is, therefore, easier to find focus and creative solutions that perhaps would have evaded us at our desks at home or in the office.
While my experience was more work than vacation, I loved waking up elsewhere and embracing more slow time in the mornings and evenings, allowing myself to unwind and take in my new world. Also, I had a new perspective on the little irritations in my work - they just seemed less annoying from afar.
I challenge you - if you're able - to try it out for yourself and then let me know what you think!

An interview with one of Germanyâs OG workation spots: Coconat
A manor house with an expansive garden, a swimming pond, a sauna, upcycled furniture, a piano, individually styled bedrooms, and fireplaces - Coconat is not just another coworking space.
âWe wanted to build a creative environment where anything could happen,â Julianne, Co-Owner & CEO of Coconat Coworking Retreat tells us. âWeâre not from the hotel or hospitality business, just a few people who believe in the power of nature for increasing productivity and creativity."
Plus visiting in March is a great idea; Coconat is unveiling three new onsite businesses. 1. The Kunstcafe; a space that merges art, sustainability, and creativity. 2. Photo Studio and Gallery; the premiere is by Halina Hildebrand, and celebrates local culture. 3. Jofilia; a tailor shop by Pauline Reuter, offering bespoke services.
